Runes are the individual letters or symbols in one of the dead languages called the Runic language.[1]
After Sunny learned from Julius how to read and understand Runic Language, he mostly read the runes themselves and not the Spell translation of the runes.[1]

Forbidden Runes
There were two types of runes that the Spell refused to translate. One had to do with the type of beings it simply called the -unknown-, the primordial beings of the eternal, everchanging Void, and the other had to do with the singular being that it similarly called the -unknown-, the mysterious progenitor of the seven daemons. The latter runes were hard to look at, causing headaches and dizziness. The former runes were truly sinister, making the unfortunate person feel terror and revulsion.[4]
In the heart of the Tomb of Ariel, on the mysterious lake outside the tunnel full of harrowing runes had the second kind of runes that the Spell refused to translate. The runes that had to do with the Unknown, the progenitor of the daemons, and these writings did not threaten to corrupt one's soul.[5]
The runes mentioned the seven daemons: Demon of Fate, Demon of Desire, Demon of Oblivion, Demon of Dread, Demon of Imagination, Demon of Repose, and Demon of Choice/Destiny. These daemons were called the children of the Forgotten God, the progenitor of the seven daemons.[5]
