Four Years Ago, After Southern Campaign

Summary

The waking world was getting worse due to more powerful Gates appearing and resource shortages. The government was busy establishing a foothold in the Dream Realm and containing the growing menace of the Nightmare Spell, while also addressing resource shortages and infrastructure issues.[1]

After the Chain of Nightmares, the government's Awakened forces have grown significantly, with many veterans of the Evacuation Army remaining in service. The few Saints the government had were on par with the mightiest champions of the Great Clans, including Soul Reaper Jet, Raised by Wolves, and Nightingale.[1]

The government's power had grown in recent years, almost as powerful as the House of Night, with three of the highest tier of Transcendents in its employ and countless Awakened and Masters remaining loyal to the army. However, it was nowhere near the two nascent kingdoms of the Dream Realm, Sword Domain and Song Domain.[2]

The government had become less monolithic, and the older generation's belief in maintaining neutrality was a myth in the new world. The government's power has grown significantly due to the Chain of Nightmares, with many Awakened remaining parts of the Evacuation Army. The government now resembles the fourth Great Clan, possibly even the third, due to the dwindling influence of the House of Night. No one will remain on the sidelines once the Sovereigns fight for dominance.[3]

After the Throne War

Summary

Having upended the entire world order and new one emerged, Jet had the government under her control since there is no reason to oppose Nephis. They had a vast pool of administrative talent that helped the transition as smooth as possible. The government was only half of the equation, the Great Clans — Song, Valor, and House of Night have been the ones who are actually governing human enclaves in the Dream Realm. The Great Clans were absorbed into the new Domain to a degree after the war ended.[4]

The House of Night was disbanded, and the survivors were absorbed by the Government, which make it more or less the third great clan. The Government is still responsible for the waking world but their role in the Dream Realm became prominent. They ruled Stormsea and Jet is in control of Night Garden as the "Steward of the South".[4]

Plague

Main article: Asterion's Plague
Summary

The government compound in NQSC had been devastated and compromised from within, with its familiar lobby left empty except for corpses, its walls cracked and riddled with holes, and its floors and ceilings splattered with blood, indicating that mundane soldiers had first clashed with each other before being wiped out by Awakened combatants. In all the years since its establishment, the government complex had never been breached, yet it had now fallen due to hidden thralls of Asterion among the government personnel turning against their comrades who remained loyal to the Human Domain after receiving the Dreamspawn's command. The emergency systems had been shut down, rendering elevators inoperable, while stairwells became strategic points controlled by turncoats besieging the underground levels where loyalists had barricaded themselves. Despite the ongoing evacuation effort proceeding on schedule, with Awakened agents such as Kim coordinating the retreat, the government was ultimately forced to abandon the compound and withdraw through the Dream Gate of the Lord of Shadows, severing their connection to the waking world as part of a planned retreat.
