Taking a Vessel

Main article: Soul Battle

Mordret cannot possessed Echoes because they did not possess souls, while the Lost could not return to the waking world.[1]

Reveal

Initially, he could only make living beings into his vessels, but this changed after he became Supreme. When the Lord of Shadows killed the body of Saint Dar, Mordret discovered he could maintain control of a Transcendent vessel even as it was dying, effectively animating a corpse with a shard of his soul. This ability allowed him to possess fallen soldiers and continue his campaign without engaging in soul duels, as long as the corpse had not been dead for too long and was not too damaged. Mordret also suspected that possessing a Hollow was within his capabilities, though he chose not to attempt it. His vessels inherit the powers of the original inhabitants, and by creating a reflection of the original soul, he could utilize the vessel's Aspect and steal its Memories. In some cases, such as with Smile of Heaven, the vessel had lost its original soul, meaning Mordret would gain only an Ascended body rather than additional powers or memories.[2]

Utilizing the Vessel's powers

Reveal

Mordret makes use of a vessel's Aspect and Memories by creating a reflection of the vessel's original soul. This reflection acts as a link between Mordret's consciousness and the vessel, allowing him to access and utilize the inherent abilities tied to that soul. Through this connection, he can employ the vessel's powers as if they were his own and extract its memories, effectively gaining the knowledge, experiences, and capabilities of the original inhabitant.[2]

Vessels

Most of Mordret's Vessels are not human, instead they are Nightmare Creatures.[3]

Soul Sea

Inside the reflection of his Soul Sea, motionless figures stood in a row, with empty expressions and hollow eyes. They are all Mordret's bodies:[4]

  • A handsome young man wearing stylish clothes of the waking world.[4]
He took the body while dangling in a noose.[4]

  • A woman with a weathered face, wearing cheap synthetic attire.[4]
She had few hours left to live, her body was full of poison due to years of toil in an underground factory.[4]

  • A hunched old man in a plain suit similar to those the government officials wore.[4]
He had siphoned credits meant for security measures and falsified inspection results to keep the factory running.[4]
  • A broad-shouldered warrior clad in a suit of armor in the colors of Clan Valor. (Squire Warren)[4]
In Chapter 1509, he mentioned that his best spare was an Awakened squire with a modestly useless Aspect.
  • A young woman in the uniform of the Evacuation army.[4]
  • Several Nightmare Creatures, each more repulsive than the previous one.[4]

Previous Vessels

List of Mordret's previous vessels:

  • ✞A Lost that possessed an Aspect that allowed him to create puppets out of dead bodies.[1]
  • ✞A female sentinel that possessed a veil of invisibility.[5][6]
  • Welthe[6]
  • Old priest that tend to the Ivory Lord.[7]
  • Squire Warren, warrior of Valor Clan.[8]
  • A monstrous winged abomination[9]
  • Castellan (Became his vessel in Chapter 2549; Destroyed in Chapter 2550 when he saw the visage of a colossal reflection of Weaver lingered in the Great Mirror in Palace of Imagination)

Others

Reveal
  • In Chapter 1861, Mordret possesses thirteen Transcendent bodies from House of Night.
    • One of the vessels possessed an Aspect that allowed him to hide himself from the gaze of living beings.[10]
    • Among Mordret's Transcendent vessels, none could compare to the sheer size and terror of the two behemoths: Typhaon and Knossos.[10]
    • Typhaon
    • Knossos
  • millions of vessels, both human and Nightmare Creatures[11]
  • Inhabitants of Red Hill, including Dar.[12][2]* an Ascended warrior atop a northern caldera, a ferryman on the Mirror Lake, and millions of additional incarnations scattered across the Dream Realm[2]

Trivia
