After Sunny lost his True Name[1], he struggled to master Shadow Dance so he focused on developing his personal transcendent battle art for the past four years. He had formulated its principles and now tempering them in battles against powerful opponents.[2]
These are the elements Sunny incorporated into his battle art:[3]
- The first element Sunny had to consciously integrate into his battle style was his ability to perceive movement through shadows (Shadow Sense) and see what was happening behind his back. He had spent time relearning the basics of combat and building his technique to fully utilize this subtle advantage.[3]
- The second element was movement, as it dictated balance, strength, and controlled space. Sunny's supreme mobility due to Shadow Step allowed him to control space and adapt his way of thinking about it.[3]
- The third element was group battle, as Sunny had multiple bodies (Shadow Avatar) and had trained himself to fight while controlling many bodies simultaneously. The boon of fighting in a group was not additive, but instead multiplicative, and he learned how to efficiently use group tactics without anyone's help.[3]
- The fourth element had to do with his Attributes, Blood Weave and Bone Weave. Sunny lacked several vulnerabilities that most humans possessed. He wouldn't bleed to death even if his artery was sliced open, and his bones were immensely resilient, to the point that breaking them was almost impossible. Therefore, he had to teach himself how to use these traits, which went against his most powerful instinct, the instinct of self-preservation. He did successfully change his behavior to strategically sacrifice non-vital parts of himself.[3]
- The fifth element was about the Onyx Shell, which allowed Sunny to freely change his weight or mass. He had incorporated the effects of the [Feather of Truth] trait of the Onyx Shell into his battle style. Learning how to use it not only comprehensively, but also instinctually utilizing the adaptable trait to enhance his every move.[3]
- The sixth element was about Shadow Manifestation. Sunny had the ability to manifest endless variations of tangible shadows, divided into two methods: summoning external implements like shadow hands or chains, which was destructive but lost too much potency in battles against powerful opponents, and altering the shape of his body with manifested shadows, from summoning additional limbs to building towering Shadow Shells.[3]
- However, his repertoire of Shells was limited, as he did not possess a True Name anymore, making it extremely dangerous to assume the shapes of alien creatures. He only used a handful of Shells, which he perfected to a stellar degree. Sunny was slowly translating his battle art to each of these Shells.[3]
- The seventh element was unknown, but he suspected that once he mastered it, his technique would become a supreme battle art.[3]
History
Despite his dissatisfaction with the lack of tangible rewards, Sunny's growth was not stagnating. Instead, his power was growing deeper as he prepared for the final vital leap. His Transcendent battle art was progressing steadily. He was gradually perfecting his essence technique, incorporating the ability to sense shadows, change the weight of his body and limbs at will, Shadow Step, and various forms of Shadow Manifestation.[4]
Sunny needed practice and experimentation to perfect his Transcendent battle art, which was built on his unique advantages. The relentless battlefield of Godgrave provided the perfect arena for this. However, he could not practice his seamless cooperation between multiple avatars, which he had envisioned after becoming a Saint. Additionally, he was unsure how to elevate his Transcendent battle art to a Supreme one. The last element had to do with spirit and will.[4]
Sunny's journey to develop his Transcendent Battle Art was extraordinary, as he achieved this feat without the resources of a Legacy Clan, relying solely on his ingenuity and unique abilities. His art diverged from human combat principles, focusing instead on his extraordinary power to control multiple incarnations. This ability became the cornerstone of his style, allowing him to exist in several places simultaneously, seamlessly blending offense and defense, setting traps, and controlling the battlefield with precision. Weapons manifested for each incarnation—a tachi, odachi, spear, and jian—each imbued with the potency of Transcendent craftsmanship.[5]
Through relentless effort and countless battles, Sunny refined his art to perfection. The decisive test came during his confrontation with the four Saints of Song, formidable opponents with their own exceptional coordination and abilities. His complete mastery of the art enabled him to dismantle their unity, outmaneuver them, and dominate the battle. While each of his incarnations was individually weaker than his augmented body, their combined strength and flawless harmony overwhelmed his foes, showcasing his art's unparalleled potential.[5]
The completion of his Transcendent Battle Art marked a profound transformation for Sunny. It elevated not only his combat effectiveness but also his ability to understand and counter other Transcendent techniques, deepening his mastery of Shadow Dance. Beyond combat, it hinted at a higher state of being—incorporating his will into his sword movements and evolving toward something that transcended mere technique. This realization planted the seed for future breakthroughs, aligning his path with the essence of what it means to be Supreme.[5]
Trivia
- Sunny's Transcendent Battle Art had already reached technical completion — his swordsmanship no longer required structural breakthroughs. However, to elevate it to a Supreme Battle Art, he needed to introduce a new, abstract dimension: the dimension of Will.[6]
