Chapter 281 Seven Heroes
Article contents
Starlight Legion is comprised of several factions each led by one of the seven heroes, who are also its founders.[2]
Purpose
To battle against the encroaching doom (Curse of Darkness), they swear to bring back the light even though they never saw it.[2]
Founders
The founders of the Starlight Legion (or the seven heroes) were described as beings born in the all-consuming darkness:[3]
- A knight in an intricate plate armor forged of white metal, with a stalwart blade grasped firmly in his hands.[2]
- A graceful priestess in a light flowing robe, her delicate hands shining with gentle light.[2]
- A mighty hunter in an archaic cuirass leaning on a beautiful bronze spear.[2]
- A masterful builder holding a mason's hammer in his calloused hands.[2]
- A regal lord with a humble crown resting on his head, a single gem decorating its simple design.[2]
- A subtle and merciless slayer with a ghostly stiletto hidden cunningly behind her back.[2]
- A stranger from a misty land who wore a stone-like armor and never showed his face, with a heavy round shield resting at his feet.[2]
Colossal Statues of the Seven Heroes
Each statue had a Nightmare Champion tied to it by some invisible bond.[4] The creatures were described as cursed soldiers of the fallen legion.[4]
| Statue | Description | Nightmare Champion | Shard Memories | Details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Knight | It was an ancient, colossal statue at least two hundred meters tall that depicted a knight clad in elaborate plate armor, with seven shining stars carved into his breastplate. In his hands, he was holding a gargantuan sword, pointing it to the ground. The giant stone knight was missing his head.[5] | Carapace Demon | Midnight Shard | |
| Hunter | A colossal stone warrior clad in an archaic cuirass, with a beautiful spear resting on his shoulder. It was facing south, as though greeting the travelers who traveled on the road to reach the ancient city. It was also missing its head too.[9] | Iron (Spider) Matriarch | Zenith Shard | |
| Lord | ︖ | ︖ | Dawn Shard |
|
| Stranger | An unfinished statue cut from the giant pillar by an unknown sculptor. Its upper torso was almost finished, while the lower half was still encased inside the stone. The details of the unfinished giant's armor and shield were eerily similar to the armaments that the Black Knight guarding the ruined cathedral wore.[4] | Cursed Herald | Dusk Shard |
|
| Slayer | ︖ | ︖ | Moonlight Shard |
|
| Builder | A monument that had somehow come to life and now wandering the Forgotten Shore.[4] The walking statue was neither a living being nor a Nightmare Creature. It had no soul. Instead, it contained seven Transcendent soul shards connected by essence channels. The ancient colossus was an automaton created by the Builder and brought to life by sorcery. It was a crude, far less intricate creation than even the Echoes that the Spell weaved.[13] |
︖ | Sunlight Shard |
|
| Priestess | A headless statue of a graceful woman, one of her hands was raised toward the heavens. The other had broken off thousands of years ago, lying in the mud at the base of the giant statue.[15] | Lord of the Dead | Starlight Shard |
The stolen heads of the seven colossal statues were torn off by the Crimson Terror thousands of years ago and lay them at the base of the spire for all eternity.[17]
Starlight Crest
Also known as "The Crest of the Seven". Its symbols are seven shining stars which are not only carved into the robe of the giant statue standing in front of the impregnable city wall, but it was also often depicted in numerous stone carvings decorating the wall of Dark City.[1]
History
In the end, to create the artificial sun, the seven heroes sacrificed tens of thousands of people. Then, as the last sacrifice, the seven heroes turned their weapons on themselves, thrusting them into their hearts.[18]
The stone colossus with a missing head, surrounded by six stone heads: The Lord, the Priestess, the Hunter, the Slayer, the Knight, and the Stranger, stares at the space where the gates of the Crimson Spire once stood. The seventh head, the Builder's head, is held gently in the statue's hands. The colossus remained motionless having found what he had been looking for.[13]
Sunny believed that the Stranger, one of the seven heroes of the Forgotten Shore, was one of the Stone Saints who brought a small number of his soldiers to the Forgotten Shore. The Builder, in awe of Nether's craftsmanship, recreated it clumsily, creating a walking giant. The seven soul shards in his stone body were devoid of essence, one step away from being extinguished. The colossus may have been absorbing power from the artificial sun or exhausted all its power, reaching a natural end.[13]
Trivia
- The seven heroes had left behind the keys, hidden in the Shard Memories, that can be used to once again seal and lock the all-consuming darkness underground.[3]
- The Builder, one of the Seven Heroes, may have drawn inspiration from Nether, the Demon of Destiny. Sunny suspects that Saint disdains the Builder's works due to their inferior imitation of the Stone Saints.[19]
