The Fragment of the Shadow Realm was not a memory, Echo, or Shadow. It was a vast and ancient shadow of the Divine Rank.[1]
The shadow was lightless and black but shone with the golden light of divinity in Sunny's vision. It was not alive but not empty like the shadows of inanimate objects.[1]

Description: [When Shadow made death, he has become death. Everything that Shadow swallowed died, and everything that died was swallowed by Shadow. Death was an absolute law, and thus, that which was everchanging was everchanging no more. Time was an absolute law, and thus, that which was everlasting was everlasting no more. Space was an absolute law, and thus, that which was endless was endless no more. Wielding time, space, and death, the gods defeated and bound their enemies.
However, there were those who defied even absolute laws. One of these beings broke free of the Shadow Realm after being swallowed by it, and in doing so, splintered several small fragments of it. This is one of the fragments.][2]
??: [By calling upon the Fragment of Shadow Realm, its owner can summon a piece of Shadow's domain into existence.][2]
The Nightmare Spell seems to blur the boundaries between Shadow God, his Domain, the Shadow Realm, and death itself, almost suggesting that the Shadow Realm exists within Shadow God. This leads Sunny to wonder if the Shadow Realm is Shadow God's “soul sea,” a divine space where everything that dies is swallowed by him and finds rest. This idea resonates with Sunny’s own experience, as the shadows of those he kills also end up in his soul sea, finding a similar peace. He considers that the Shadow Realm’s “mercy” may be in offering a tranquil finality, much like his own soul's quiet darkness.[3]
Functions
“ This Domain Fragment... I'm not sure what else it can do, but it definitely enhances the range of my shadow sense. To a degree where I can perceive everywhere on the island, at the same time — well, except for the tower. It seems to be shielded from view, somehow. Needless to say, that's not something that a human brain, even that of a Master, is wired to handle. ” ― Sunny about the Fragment of Shadow God's Domain,
Chapter 1434 World of Darkness
The Domain Fragment enhances Sunny's shadow sense.
As long as Sunny remained in the unfathomable depths of the Fragment, his Aspect seemed to be enhanced, as if the ancient shadow was nourishing it. The best part about the Fragment of Shadow's Domain was that it existed independently of Sunny, not manifested from his essence or under his control.[4]
Sunny's innate connection to the inconceivable shadow allowed him to spread his rudimentary affinity to water that the Crown of Twilight granted him through the Fragment. The Fragment also allowed Sunny to manifest it into tangible objects using his essence, its origin was still a Divine shadow which was powerful and robust but burned a large amount of essence.[4]
Dismissing the Fragment of the Shadow Realm seemed impossible once unleashed. The only exception was the Shadow Lantern, where he could hide the Fragment inside the Divine Memory but couldn't summon it back. Once the inconceivable shadow entered the gate of the black lantern, it disappeared forever.[4]
Trivia
- In Chapter 1301, Sunny received a fragment of Shadow's Domain.
- When Sunny first used the fragment, he was connected to this shadow, though he was not yet qualified to be its master. The knowledge of its manifestation was buried deep in his soul.[1]
- The fourth relic granted by Shadow Dance could make a fragment of the Shadow Realm descend into the world.[2]
- Sevras possessed a piece of Shadow's domain which he used to devour the moon in a vast and impenetrable shadow.[5]
- The Fragment of the Shadow Realm cannot be retrieved from the Shadow Lantern because the gate of the lantern leads directly to the Shadow Realm itself. When Sunny stored the Fragment in the Lantern, it essentially returned to its original domain, mending a rift in the Shadow Realm.[6]
- Even as a Saint, Sunny was not able to move the fragment, it only became possible when he anchored it to the Nameless Temple in Chapter 2234.
