Shadow Incarnation is the term he used to call his Transformation Ability as a Transcendent according to his summoned runes.[1] This transformation was primarily based on his shadows, which were the invaluable helpers that followed him around.[2] (For incarnated shadow helper, refer to Shadow Avatar)

Ability

Incarnated Shadow (Human Form)

Shadow Incarnation ability transformed his shadow helpers into perfect copies of himself. The shadow avatars were also clad in fearsome armor, granting them the same Attribute. They possessed the rest of his Attributes, making them just as strong and durable as his own body, including the Master of Shadows, Flame of Divinity, Onyx Shell, and the three Weaves (Blood Weave, Bone Weave, Soul Weave).[2]

The Weaves granted them strength and made their bodies exceedingly tenacious, while the Onyx Shell granted them protection against all kinds of attacks, as well as a handful of extremely useful traits.[2]

The most important thing about this Transformation Ability was the manifested shadows were identical to Sunny, possessing the same body, attributes, and power. Each of the avatars was fast, strong, and resilient as his class and rank and could use the same abilities as Sunny, including Shadow Control, Shadow Step, and Shadow Manifestation. They could summon Sunny's Shadows, wield his Memories, weave strings of shadow essence, and form their own Shadow Shells. Theoretically, he could turn each of his avatars into a different kind of terrifying creature.[3]

Shadow Form

As the natural form of the manifested avatar was that of a shadow, Sunny could abandon his physical form without losing control of the incarnation, becoming a shadow.[4] In Chapter 1889, Sunny was able to fuse with his Shadow akin to his shadows in the past. It felt natural and euphoric as if he was doing something he had always meant to do.

When merged as a shadow to Saint, Sunny shares her vision and all of her senses, similar to Cassie's Ascended Ability.[5]

Other Ability

  • Sunny can seize multiple Citadels with his seven incarnations, so technically he can place seven tethers instead of one.[6]

Conditions

It allowed him to perceive the world through his shadow avatars and control it as he would his own body. The copies of himself can perform separate actions. However, controlling seven bodies simultaneously put much pressure on his mind.[2]

Sunny and his shadow avatars shared two common traits: his mind and soul.[3]

  • The shadows could act independently, but when Sunny took control of their bodies, his sole consciousness controlled many bodies and, therefore, took on the corresponding burden on his mind. The avatars also refuse to speak unless directly controlled by him, despite being physically able to. This meant that his Flaw prohibited him from lying even through the mouths of the avatars.[2][3]
  • Sunny shared his soul with his avatars, allowing them to summon his Shadows and Memories, and all of them had the same pool of shadow essence. Maintaining the avatars cost a significant amount of essence, and if they used powerful enchantments and abilities simultaneously, it would be cataclysmic but short-lived. However, since he Transcended, his soul was filled with potent essence and could replenish it with spirit essence when in the embrace of shadows.[3]
Soul Weave changed his Transformation Ability, allowing him to summon the full wrath of his avatars for longer and sustain a few of them permanently without losing essence. This made him one of the rare Saints who could maintain their Transformation indefinitely.[3]

  • Unlike most Saints who burned their essence to maintain their Transformation, Sunny could sustain his Transcendent form indefinitely, or at least most of it, since keeping all of his incarnations manifested still consumed his essence.[7]
  • He also did not need to Transform all of his shadows simultaneously; some could be transformed into avatars while keeping the rest in their natural form. These shadows could then augment either Sunny or the manifested avatars, allowing him to shift between being a single source of overwhelming power or several sources of slightly less unreasonable might.[3]
  • His avatars were not beholden to the maximum range of Shadow Control.[1]
  • Sunny could possess seven bodies but was only managed by a single soul. Each of his incarnations was nevertheless capable of having their own tether.[8]

Limitation

His Transformation ability had limitations, including the burden on his mind and shadow essence reserves. Each avatar needs to be armed with suitable equipment. They might all be wearing the Onyx Mantle, but that was simply because it was a manifestation of his Attribute, and summoning a powerful Memory weapon would only result in one weapon appearing in the avatars' hands.[3]

Other Forms

Trivia

  • In Chapter 1949, Sunny used his incarnation to fuse with the Silver Bell. This fusion caused Sunny to feel its essence deeply, splitting his consciousness between being himself and being the bell. He experienced the bell's spellweave, which was a complex tapestry of ethereal strings, shining brightly in the darkness. This profound experience gave him a new, vivid understanding of his sorcery, revealing details and nuances he had never felt before. (More information on Weaving page)
