A God's avatar is a mortal vessel through which gods manifest, allowing them to become more accessible despite their vastness.[1]
Origin
In Chapter 2855, it was explained by Azarax that the gods were younger once, but by the time the daemons rose against them in rebellion, they had already become extremely vast and powerful, having wasted too much of themselves, becoming too vast and too great to resemble living beings. Because of this transformation, they barely retained personhood and were slowly turning into elemental forces, so they maintained their agency by limiting themselves to mortal vessels or avatars.
The Vessels of the Gods are individuals who do not inherently start as divine beings but must first walk the Path of Ascension to reach higher spiritual or supernatural ranks. They can rise from being mortals or Transcendents to potentially become Supreme or Divine, gaining extraordinary power along the way.[2]
Known Avatars
- World Tree - avatar of Heart God.[3]
- During the great battle in the Hell of Ariel, it was the avatar of Shadow God who descended to fight. According to Azarax, this avatar fought the Demon of Repose but then ended the battle and returned to his lightless realm, destroying both armies with a cruel curse. It was mentioned that the Shadow God was the Shadow Realm, and the Shadow Realm was Shadow God, meaning the god itself could not physically leave its domain, only its vessel could.[4]
- War God, whose avatar did not appear in that battle because the current one was too young, while the former avatar, called the Dragon, had been the founder of the War Empire. Later history states that the War Empire ruled for a thousand years under an avatar of War, until Eurys killed the avatar of War God, sealing the empire's fate and leaving no avatar of War God present when the Doom War began.[4]
