A True Dragon of the Lumenflight, Yrelstromoz is incredibly arrogant and entirely convinced of her natural superiority. She is eventually expelled from the flight due to her reckless actions and murder of a C-grade member of the United Tribes who held a Divine Blessing. She is the first True Dragon kill for Jake Thayne, earning him the title of Dragonslayer.

Appearance

In her polymorph form, Yrelstromoz appears almost entirely humanoid, save for two curved horns on her head and distinctly reptilian eyes. In her True Dragon form, she has muted yellow scales, curved, ivory horns, and two large wings.

Personality

Yrelstremoz is charactarized as arrogant, rebellious, self-centered, and short-sighted. The Malefic Viper theorizes that she "believes herself to be a superior being who doesn't have to abide by any morals or norms when it comes to those she considers weaker."[1] Yrel views C, D, E, and F-grades as ants to be exterminated if they annoy her. Both Jake and the Viper note that Yrel takes pleasure in killing the weak because it makes her feel strong.

Yrelstremoz believes she is inherently entitled to behave as she pleases and until her final breath, she refuses to believe that she was not an untouchable, apex being or that anyone would truly hold her accountable for her actions.

Background

Yrelstremoz was born into the Lumenflight. The daughter of two peak A-grades, she grew up relatively wealthy, highly protected by her family and wanting for nothing. From a very early age, Yrel received an intensive education in magic, combat, and other skills. However, due to her parents sheltering her, she did not get much real world experience and eventually began to resent her isolation.

Ten years before Yrel evolved to B-grade True Dragon status, her parents were both killed in a dungeon where they'd been attempting to break through to S-grade in order to earn more training privileges for their daughter. Rather than grieve her parents and work to make sure their sacrifice hadn't been in vain, Yrel blew through her inheritance and refused to continue training. Believing only idiots would risk their lives to continue progressing their path,[2] she instead traveled the multiverse gambling, killing anyone who she deemed inferior or annoying.

Killing Sprees

Yrelstromoz showed very little restraint when it came to killing. She saw everyone below B-grade as disposable targets of her anger and irritation and falsely believed that no one above B-grade would target her for fear of crossing the Lumenflight. Yrelstremoz went on dozens of killing sprees including:

Incident Faction Outcome
Blew up a residential neighborhood; Instigated because someone said "blow me" during and argument Small, unnamed local faction Excused by the Lumenflight
Destroyed a mega structure housing nearly a thousand businesses full of people because the food in the restaurant wasn't up to her standards Golden Road Emporium Lumenflight threatens expulsion
Killed a group of C-grade prospects, including the beastkin son of a demigod who held a Divine Blessing United Tribes Expulsion from the Lumenflight

Battle Against Jake

Yrelstromoz is picked personally by the Malefic Viper as the perfect target for Jake's goal of killing a True Dragon before evolving to B-grade.[1] At the time of her selection, she's a few hundred years old and has been B-grade for a few decades without gaining a single additional level beyond the B-grade evolution requirements. The Viper notes that while Yrelstromoz is extremely well trained, she doesn't have much real world battle experience.

In their first encounter, Yrelstromoz attempts to ambush kill Jake simply because he has better luck at gambling games than she does. She also felt he didn't treat her with the proper deference although she was hiding her B-grade status. Unsurprisingly, her kill attempt is unsuccessful. Instead, Jake marks her with Hunter's Mark then retreats. When Yrelstromoz feels the mark deactivate, she becomes cautious for a few days before convincing herself that a C-grade is no true threat. Due to her failure to listen to her own instincts, Jake is able to lure Yrelstromoz to an isolated area for their fight.

Initially, Yrelstromoz severely underestimates Jake, mistakenly believing that the abilities he displayed were powered by a hidden treasure or limited-duration boosting skill. She does not even attempt to go on the offensive. Jake notes that, despite Monsters being unable to receive stats from equipment, Yrel wears gaudy armor and wields a sword she's obviously uncomfortable with for no discernible reason other than because she thought it looked good.[3] She doesn't even bother assuming her more powerful dragon form.

“
Yrelstromoz tried to fend him off, but the only damage she did was emotional as Jake's disappointment grew.
— Jake Thayne's internal monologue
”

Eventually, when her flesh begins to rot away, Yrelstromoz realizes that she is fighting the Chosen of the Malefic Viper. She declares that battling a Chosen is worthy of her full efforts and morphs into her True Dragon form. However, this transformation triggers the Dragonsbane that Jake has been deploying throughout their battle. While Yrelstromoz can now bring to bear immensely powerful magic, the Dragonsbane makes it extraordinarily painful. Unused to pain, Yrelstromoz is skittish and panics until she realizes she either has to push through or die.

Yrelstromoz uses every tool at her disposal in her attempt to defeat Jake, including Dragon's Breath. Ultimately, she realizes that her efforts are in vain and attempts to flee. However, Jake deploys Event Horizon to keep her from using her superior speed to evade him. With her dying breath, she casts a death curse at Jake which Eternal Shadow quickly devours. Yrelstromoz died never knowing that even her desperate last ditch effort had been completely futile.

Death Notification and Loot Drop

Death Notification

You have slain [Luxellian Dragon – lvl 350] – Bonus experience earned for killing an enemy above your level

Loot Drop

In exchange for allowing Yrelstromoz's family to claim her body for burial, Yrel's aunt assisted Jake in extracting and empowering Yrel's heart with useful records:[4]

[Light-touched Luxellian Dragon Heart (Mythical)] – The heart of a Luxellian True Dragon, touched and empowered by her kin mere moments after death. Contains the focused Records of a Luxellian True Dragon, granting it incredibly potent energy of the light-affinity and even the true essence of a dragon. Has many alchemical uses, but be warned that manipulating the inherent power within will not prove easy.[5]

Trivia

  • Contrary to Yrelstromoz's belief that no one would dare attack her, an assassination contract had already been issued against her with the Court of Shadows, most likely by the United Tribes in response to her killing of their C-grade prospects.[5] The only reason the contract hadn't yet been executed was due to the Malefic Viper reserving her for Jake.
  • Jake believed that the reason Yrelstromoz stagnated at exactly level 350 was because her Path was too broken for further advancement. He further believed that the only reason she even reached B-grade was due to her heritage, since all she had to do to get there was stay alive.[5]
