Chapter 2705 Soul of Kanakht

Killed By
Jet (explained in Chapter 2706)

Cause of Death
The Soul of Kanakht was destroyed when the Cursed Wanderer’s viridian cutlass weakened, cracked, shattered midair, and dissolved into light, its shadow dissipating completely. Immediately afterward, the mist formed into Jet’s wraithlike figure, now far more powerful and wielding a fearsome scythe.[2]

Note: This is in connection to Jet being swallowed by the Soul of Kanakht in Chapter 2701. This was explained in Chapter 2706 that she allowed herself to be consumed by the Soul of Kanakht, retaining enough will as a wraith. Using the Mist Blade, she destroyed all enthralled souls inside the Soul of Kanakht, effectively annihilating it from within.

Soul of Kanakht is identified as the true nature of the Dutchman, a cursed ship also known as the Well of Souls.[1]

Background

Reveal

The Dutchman is commanded by a spectral captain who was once a bronze-skinned sea captain and a member of the Nine, a group of powerful individuals tied to the daemons and their schemes during the ancient conflicts of the Dream Realm.[1]

According to legend, the Dutchman's captain was a lovesick man who sought the Eternal City out of devotion to the Demon of Repose but was ultimately cursed. However, Sunny's observations suggest that the legend may have been distorted. The Nine were each sent on missions connected to different daemons, and the captain's supposed affection for Repose may have been part of a deeper, more sinister objective.[1]

The Soul of Kanakht itself is described as the soul of a Supreme being cursed to immortality by the Shadow God, Kanakht. The captain is believed to have sought out this entity, sacrificed himself to it, and later subjugated it to gain immense power. This act enabled both him and the Dutchman to survive the Doom War, even when gods and daemons were destroyed. However, their survival came at the cost of severe corruption, leaving the captain as a wraith consumed by obsession with the Eternal City.[1]

Trivia

  • Cassie informed Sunny that the Well of Souls is the Soul of Kanakht.[1]
  • The Soul of Kanakht is described as a being of immense age and power — "a remnant of a dreadful fiend who was almost as old as existence itself". It was once a Great Tyrant, an ancient and formidable entity, but had been conquered and subjugated by the Cursed Wanderer, also known as the captain of the Dutchman, who then stole its power.[3]
  • The Soul of Kanakht had been turned into a weapon, specifically a cutlass, which the Cursed Wanderer wielded in battle.[3]
