― Memory Description,
Chapter 1237 The Answer Is

Show/Hide spoilers

Key of the Estuary is a Supreme Memory of the Sixth Tier that appeared in Sunny soul out of nowhere.[2]

Description

A jagged piece of cold black stone, resembling the building blocks of the Tomb of Ariel. It had no features, runes, or images, and appeared like a rough, palm-sized chunk of stone randomly picked from the ground.[3]

Function

The Estuary Key forbids Sin of Solace from saying something about the truth and prevents Sunny's innate connection with the splintered piece of his mind from serving as a conduit for subconscious knowledge about the Great River's cycles and Estuary secrets.[4]

The Memory functioned passively, even without being summoned.[4]

Weave

The weave of the Estuary Key had no light, and every string of its vast and intricate tapestry was black, as if created out of shadow essence.[2]

This Memory seemed to be made by Sunny somehow.[2]

  • The Estuary Key's weave strings were not created by Sunny, as there could have been another shadow creature capable of weaving. Sunny had never received a Memory for killing a shadow creature, so it's possible that Serpent had slain a Great Terror in the waking world and received the reward tied to the Great River while asleep. This is hard to believe, but Sunny had lived with the [Fated] Attribute for years and was prone to improbable coincidences.[2]
  • Sunny had improved his weaving mastery, procured six Supreme soul shards, and created the Key of the Estuary, but forgotten about it.[2]
  • Relating the Great River and the nature of time, suggesting that Sunny could create the Key of the Estuary in the future but already possess it in the present.[2]

In Chapter 1350, it was revealed that the name of Sin of Solace was intricately woven into the enchantment of the Estuary Key.

Enchantment

The Key of the Estuary contains a passive enchantment that was related to the Sin of Solace. An enchantment that consisted of two parts — one directed outward, one directed inward.[5]

One part of its enchantment aimed to prevent the Sin of Solace from sharing past cycles with Sunny, preventing him from learning the cursed knowledge of Defilement. The other made the Estuary Key immune to the change of cycles, ensuring it remained in Sunny's soul even if he crossed the Source's boundary.[5]

That was why the Mad Prince was interested in the Great Tyrant slain by the Serpent King in Aletheia's Tower[6], as its death was permanent and carried over from one cycle to the next. The Defiled madman was trying to create the Estuary Key to cure himself of Defilement and conquer the Nightmare in a specific way.[5]

Trivia

  • The [Key of Estuary] suddenly appeared in Sunny's list of memories without his knowledge.[3]
  • The Estuary Key looked very similar to the black stone in the hidden chamber of Aletheia's Tower.[7]
  • The Estuary Key was a Sixth Tier Supreme Memory suppressing the Sin of Solace which was a Fifth Tier Transcendent Memory.[8]
  • In Chapter 1574, the Key of the Estuary, had mysteriously destroyed itself, as the Mad Prince had already opened the door with it.
