Dark Drifters

Dark drifters are massive, formless beings, each hundreds of meters across, made entirely of darkness. They move with a ghostly wind and attack larger entities like the Shadow of Condemnation by attaching to and consuming them. These beings function as predators in the Shadow Realm, preying on powerful shadows and devouring them piece by piece.^[3]

They appear to rise from darkness itself, reforming into monstrous shapes covered by a tattered veil of shadow. They can manifest as enormous beasts, hundreds of meters tall, with wolf-like maws and claws digging into the ground. Tendrils of darkness billow around them like a torn mantle.^[3]

One of the dark drifters had countless appalling maws which Sunny decided to call the Leech. One more was drifting in the air like a great veil when suddenly the veil shrunk and twisted on itself, sprouting enormous wings from its depths. This one Sunny decided to call the Vulture.^[4]

These beings are of true darkness, a pure and impenetrable obscurity distinct from both shadows and vile corruption. They lack radiant soul cores or the appalling nodes of corruption seen in Nightmare Creatures. Their essence is cold, devoid of light or the twisted influence of Corruption.^[2]

They were vast and formless, resembling billowing swathes of tattered black cloth. They could take various shapes, each towering hundreds of meters in height, and seemed to be capable of feeding on shadows. These immensely powerful beings appeared to exist beyond the familiar definition of Rank and Class, as though they were alien to the fundamental laws of existence established by the gods.^[5]

They are predatory and destructive, targeting and consuming entities such as the shadow of Condemnation. Their actions suggest an intent to destroy or dominate within the Shadow Realm, preying on even powerful beings.^[2]

It is theorized that they might be Creatures of Darkness, akin to the Shadow Creatures but fundamentally different. Their origins could be divine, profane, or tied to the Void, as true darkness was born from the blood of a Void Being. Their presence in the Shadow Realm is unusual, as shadows and true darkness are natural adversaries.^[2]

In Chapter 3058, Dark Drifters were identified by Sunny as Creatures of Darkness.

• Dark drifters are immensely powerful, capable of threatening even the shadow of a Cursed Tyrant.^[2]
• Killing them might not yield shadow fragments.^[2]
• Their means of entering the Shadow Realm, seemingly without being dead, is unclear.^[2]
• A Dark One encountered in the Underworld disguised itself as a crude, misshapen stone knight by using the remains of dozens of slain Stone Saints as a shell. Unlike Nightmare Creatures, it possessed no soul, soul cores, or tumors of Corruption—there was only darkness within it.^[5]
• The Dark Drifter's peculiar flesh appears to ripple and seethe when exposed to light, but the light alone does not destroy it.^[6]
