Void Spheres are containment constructs that create a bounded area for a battle. They are often used in battles amongst gods as battling in the actual universe creates catastrophic damage.[1] When deployed, a boundary will appear. It cannot be crossed and will remain in place until the Spheres energy runs out. This boundary both stops combatants from fleeing the battle field and prevents anyone else from intervening. When the Sphere's energy runs out, the boundary will naturally fade and the void zone will merge with real space, leaving no trace of its usage. It is generally accepted that only the victor will emerge alive.

Void Spheres are extremely difficult to obtain. Creating one usually requires the corpse of a Void Dweller.[1] The System assisted in creating the Spheres to limit damage to the True Universe.[2]

Traits

When a void sphere is deployed, it effectively creates a separate dimension mirroring the real world, but containing only the combatants. From the perspective of the fighters, the world briefly appears as black-and-white before returning to normal, except every other person is gone.[2]

Although the sphere imitates the immediate environment, details are murky and blurred, similar to censorship, to avoid Spheres being used to surveil restricted areas.[2] Within this space, the combatants are free to fight without worrying about allies, bystanders, or collateral damage. Additionally, no one can see or hear their confrontation.

When the fight has concluded, the Sphere dimension will collapse and the occupants will appear in roughly the same pace as where they entered.

Notable Creators

Normally, Void Spheres are obtained directly from the Void gods. However, in the days leading up to the confrontation between Jake and Ell'Hakan, Arnold is able to make a greatly diminished version adequate for use by C-grades:

Void Sphere (Unique)- Can temporarily trap the user and another individual in a Void Sphere Dimension. Both targets must be C-grade or below. Activation time is dependent on the abilities of the user and the selected target. This Void Sphere is incomplete, causing the Void Sphere Dimension to not be wholly stable and giving it a severely limited duration.[3]

Notable Uses

Yip of Yore vs The Malefic Viper

Yip of Yore obtained a pinnacle-grade Void Sphere from one of the Void Gods for use in his confrontation with the Malefic Viper. Yip desired the Sphere for two reasons: 1) He did not want the Malefic Viper to be able to escape to his divine realm and 2) he did not want to damage Primordial-4, as he planned to take over it as his territory upon successfully defeating the Viper.[4]

The Viper took advantage of the privacy of the Sphere to enact his plan. After Yip was dead, the Sphere dimension collapsed and the Viper emerged victorious.

Primal Hunter vs Celestial Child

Throughout the fight between Jake and Ell'Hakan, Jake was at a disadvantage as they were fighting on a planet where Ell'Hakan was the world leader and he'd used his bloodline to make himself into a quasi-god who gained strength from the faith of his followers. When Ell'Hakan somehow convinces the System to grant him an upgrade to his bloodline that, in effect, temporarily made him a god, Jake deployed a Void Sphere in an attempt to cut the now Celestial Child off from the faith energy of his followers and the Records of his planet.[3]

Despite being in the Void Sphere, the Celestial Child was able to command his followers to commit mass ritualistic suicide so that he could benefit from their energy. Towards the end of the fight, the entire Void Sphere dimension began to shake due to the violence of their clash and tears in reality disrupted the space within. It ultimately shattered before the conclusion of the fight, returning the combatants to the real Nahoom.[5]

Trivia

  • The assassins of the Court of Shadows use the Shadow Realm similarly to isolate their targets.
