But you know what? If I do end up falling, feel free to usurp whatever you can. Take every scrap of Records you can get and put it to good use.
A usurper is someone who forcefully seizes the Records of a fallen god, effectively becoming their second coming. The usurper could be viewed as the heretic version of being a Chosen.[1] This also contrasts with a legacy holder who has access to a god's Path Records with the god's implicit permission.
Method of Acquisition
The would-be usurper has to lay down a large, complex magical formation and be seated inside the formation. The potential formation created by Valhal for Jake was over a hundred meters wide with complex runes and scripts all over.[2] The ritual setup is completed by attuning the circle to the Path of the Usurper and the Path of the one they plan to usurp. The circle requires immense amounts of power to operate. For Ell'Hakan and the Holy Church, that meant thousands of C-grade mages. Jake's circle would have been operated by Gudrun.
For Ell'Hakan, upon Yip of Yore's death, the magic of the formation activated and used his connection to Yip and his Records to yank said records towards Ell'Hakan. The records poured into the Usurper and he began to gain levels, his skills upgraded, he gained new skills, and he gained instinctual knowledge of how to use the skills with plenty of room for future improvement.[3] At the conclusion of the ritual, the System began to refer to Ell'Hakan as "former Chosen and Usurper of Yip of Yore."[4]

Trivia
- Yip of Yore has a transcendent item, Usurper of Legends, rewarded to him by the System. It uses the same concepts of usurpation to allow him to steal the records and titles of those he slays.[5] He attempts to use it to usurp the Viper's Records and title of Primordial while also becoming the first Primordial Slayer.
