House of the Architect is one of five Challenge Dungeons available to C-grade participants of the World Wonder, Nevermore. Competing in these Challenge Dungeons is essential for anyone hoping to place high on the Nevermore Leaderboards.
The challenge takes place in a massive, atrium-like construct that is hundreds of stories high. The middle of the building is filled with exhibits with a number of interesting things to inspire thought and creativity. Floors 1-7 contain a large circular library. The building has a sub cellar filled with a number of prisoners that can be used to assist in creation.[1] There are scores of white-robed attendants available to answer questions or assist in projects.
The House of the Architect is filled with the Records of C-grade crafters from all the eras since its creations. This is incredibly impactful, uplifting the Records of the participants who are struggling, actively helping them to accomplish new feats previously considered impossible.[2]
System Description
You have entered the House of the Architect, a place for creators, inventors, researchers, artists, and all those who progress both their own Path and the Path of others. It is somewhere to let your creative spirit loose and design whatever your heart desires.
Your task is to create something that will impress the Architect. What you create is entirely up to you, and all materials required in your process can be purchased using Merit Points. Merit Points can be earned by performing tasks within the House of Architect or turning in creations you do not deem good enough to submit to the Architect herself.
Creations can include anything, be they a crafted product, the display of an upgraded or newly created skill, a student you help improve, or even a simple book written with your thoughts. Anything can be submitted, and anything can be evaluated, as long as it is of your design. Should you find yourself doubting, simply ask one of the many attendants if your idea is acceptable.
Due to the nature of the House of the Architect, unique Creations are evaluated incredibly highly. Submitting several creations too similar to one another will result in a worse evaluation and leave the Architect unimpressed. Diversity is thus key if you wish to stand out and earn the highest overall evaluation possible.
During this Challenge Dungeon, some items will be limited. WARNING: Entire living beings with Truesouls cannot be submitted as Creations. Other restrictions may also apply. Ask an attendant if you are unsure if your Creations can be submitted.
Good luck, and may your Creations inspire awe.
Objective: Submit 10 Creations and submit them to the Architect for evaluation.[3]
Rules
- Raw materials must be purchased in the dungeon using Merit Points. Merit Points are earned by completing missions or turning in products.[4] Participants can access their spatial storage to retrieve weapons and tools but stored ingredients cannot be retrieved during the Challenge.[1]
- There is no time limit outside of the Nevermore 50 year limit.
- The Architect will only evaluate things created inside the Challenge Dungeon.
- The ability to remove creations from the Challenge Dungeon is at the discretion of the Architect. However, skills, knowledge, and enlightenment are intangible and will be retained.
The Architect
The Architect resides on the highest floor of the atrium in a section protected by spatial distortion. Unlike the eclectic decor of the rest of the building, the pathway to the Architect is empty of decor and people with just a single wooden door sporting the name tag "Architect". When Jake enters the Architect's room, he feels the gaze of the Wyrmgod cutoff, much like in System Events.
The Architect is a vaguely human looking woman with ashen grey skin. One eye is gold like the sun and the other is black like the Void. She is bald and covered in elaborate tattoos. She wears a tight-fitting suit and is androgynous to the point that the only clue to her gender is the System and attendants referring to her as one.[5]Jake is unable to Identify the Architect and his Sphere of Perception has trouble properly perceiving her.
At the end of Jake's time in the challenge, the Architect personally meets with Jake to discuss his creations and evaluations.
Jake's Submissions
| Name | Description | Evaluation |
|---|---|---|
| The Primal Hunter Experience[5] | Jake and the Architect talk with one another. Jake learns more about the Architect's connection to the System and she observes his instinct-driven behavior in action. | Unique enough to stand on its own and highly time-efficient |
| Cursed Stimulant of Hunger (Rare) | A poison created with the express purpose of feeding a cursed item related to the Sin Curse of Hunger | Mediocre; Unique due to its curse-related properties, but isn't extraordinary compared to the other submissions |
| Originator's Grimoire of the Heretic-Blessed (Unique) | Grants the opportunity to potentially unlock a Heretic-Blessed profession if compatible. | High-tier submission that contains many new concepts. |
| Unseen Arcane Hunter (Legendary) | Skill upgraded from Arcane Stealth (Rare) | Impressive quality. A substantial upgrade that integrated many new concepts. Suffered because it built on prior insight and was forced through due to Jake's bloodline which is already showcased in other submissions |
| Magic Ritual Circle | Used in transmutation process; upgraded Sense of the Malefic Viper (Legendary)[6] | Mediocre; Fine and diverse but not impressive compared to the other submissions |
| Transmutation | Transmuted Elemental Confluence Spirit Orb (Ancient) into Malefic Confluence Spirit Orb (Ancient) | Different but not outstanding |
| Perennial Arcane Marble (Unique) | A marble made entirely from the arcane mana of the Harbinger of Primeval Origins. | Most valuable of the submissions due to its research value. Is the single best item of all the submissions. |
| Temlat's Path | Mentorship of a subjugated half-elf who desired revenge above all else. With Jake's help, Temlat eventually transformed into a Cursed Plague Remnant Wrath, a living calamity that was able to take revenge on the society that he despised.[7][8] | Jake was successful in giving Temlat the tools needed to accomplish his self-created goals; Jake was able to influence Temlat's path in a way that allowed Temlat to die a meaningful death on his own terms. |
| Adaptable Arcane Acid of Brittleness (Rare) | An acid created with a mix of highly mana-corrosive acids and destructive arcane energy as its base, specifically created to corrode other forms of pure mana. | Mediocre; best of the mediocre batch from a quality standpoint, but not impressive |
| Malefic Blackheart Poison (Ancient) | A hemonecrotic poison capable of rotting a target from this inside. Once inflicted, the poison merges with the heart forcing it to pump necrotic toxins into the body. | Best submission quality wise but ranked lower due to the overflowing Records of the Malefic Viper mixed in; as a poison, it aligns with several other creations and did not require substantial innovation. |
Notable Performances
| Name | Multiplier | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Arnold | 25% | |
| Jake Thayne | 20% | Mark of the Architect (Legendary) |
| Ell'Hakan | 20% |
Trivia
- The System designated Jake's Perennial Arcane Marble and four of Eron's creations as Forbidden Knowledge. Nevermore tells the Wyrmgod that she is both unwilling and physically incapable of sharing the creations with him.[9]
- According to the Viper, alchemists are historically the statistically overall top performers in the House of the Architect Challenge[10] due to how diverse alchemical crafting can be.
- Nature's Attendant points out that in the early Eras, anyone with a bloodline was all but guaranteed top scores due to the unique quality of their records. However, over time, as bloodlines became a bit more common, the System adjusted to require bloodline holders to show more technique and quality in their creations. [10]
- Although she doesn't specify what happened, Nevermore expresses displeasure about the methods Ell'Hakan employed to achieve his high score in this challenge.[11]
