Wandering Archon is one of the Deathless located in the inner expanse of Ariel's Hell, a Deathless Spirit.[1]

Appearance

A colossal Deathless Spirit that rose from beneath the dunes. It at least resembled a skeleton of a human that towered above the desert like a dreadful monument, clad in a tattered robe of fluttering ivory fabric. Its bones are black like those of other Deathless, but distinct in that they are inlaid with strips of pure gold, framing its cheekbones, empty eye sockets, and forming a crown-like structure above its skull. It was holding a white staff that might have been carved from the trunk of a sacred tree or the spine of an enormous serpent. At the top of the staff, a crystal that emanates pure white light set in gold.[1]

Ability

The Archon possesses no identifiable weakness: he cannot be poisoned, lacks a singular vulnerable point, is not controlled by any external force, and cannot be countered through spells or opposing concepts.[3]

The Archon is described as Deathless, and unlike other entities, he does not present a concept that can be effectively exploited. Although he technically embodies a concept, it is ultimately unusable against him. Similar to Azarax, his Will expresses a single affinity—himself. However, this state differs in origin: whereas Azarax's self-affinity stems from arrogance and deadly ambition, the Archon's condition is the result of loss. Due to the curse of Shadow God and the passage of time, whatever concept he originally personified, as well as the nature of his Apotheosis, has been erased.[3]

As a result, the Deathless Spirit is an empty, fallen deity that personifies nothing but himself. He no longer retains the identity or powers that once defined the Wandering Archon, and all prior attributes have been washed away or swallowed by oblivion. Consequently, he wields only the fundamental power of godhood, specifically the ability to reshape the world according to his Will, without demonstrating the use of distinct or specialized abilities.[3]

The absence of a defined concept makes him resistant to conceptual countermeasures, leaving no mechanism for opponents to oppose or channel an inverse principle. Despite this limitation, his Will continues to exert large-scale influence, including empowering allied forces with indomitable resolve and causing the surrounding environment to favor him while obstructing his enemies.[3]

Battle Ability

The Archon was too fast, too strong, and too beyond the scope of normal understanding. The laws of existence bend and twist around it, making time, space, and causality unreliable, which renders the Archon both unpredictable and deadly. Its attacks defy conventional perception, sometimes arriving before they are physically delivered, with time itself hastening, slowing, or even flowing backward around it. The Archon possessed a towering skeletal form with a black skull and a golden crown, radiating an eerie light that makes its etched images difficult to discern. Its presence alone intensifies pain and mental strain, and it wields a terrifying staff capable of devastating blows. The Archon's skeletal hand moves with preternatural speed and strength, capable of crushing enemies instantly.[4]

Will

Even without Aspect, his Will alone is enough to be a problem. Its gaze exerts crushing pressure, making others feel pressed into the ground, with weaker entities collapsing under its weight. Upon entering the battlefield, its tidal Will acts as a guiding force that subjugated the collective Will of the Deathless, strengthening them so they become stronger, faster, and more durable, while simultaneously weakening opponents as the world was being bent and twisted against them. Unlike Cursed beings, its threat lies not in abilities but in raw power and the terrifying immensity of his Will. As a Deathless Spirit, it cannot be killed and must instead be dismantled bone by bone, a task made extremely difficult by its Sacred rank.[1]

Despite its overwhelming presence, it does not intentionally control the Deathless; rather, its Will naturally dominates them by sheer magnitude. The arrival of the Wandering Archon disrupted the balance of the battlefield, removing the ability of its enemies to resist the Deathless horde.[1]

History

Sunny's Strategy

Reveal

Sunny's strategy was based on his assessment that no existing Memory could effectively defeat a Sacred being, as Memories did not usually possess a Will of their own and were only as powerful as the Will of their masters, making them unreliable against an opponent like the Wandering Archon, whose superior Will could render them ineffectual. He recognized that even a Sacred Memory he had forged himself would still be fueled by his own Will and thus remain insufficient in such a confrontation. As a result, he shifted away from direct combat and considered an alternative approach. Acting on a completely mad idea, he separated one of his incarnations from the Wolf, concealed himself in the shadows, and prepared to employ sorcery instead of brute force, while retrieving an item from his Soul Sea and summoning Weaver's Needle in preparation for executing his plan.[5]

The Deathless are described as neither dead nor alive, lacking shadows and possibly souls, and since they cannot be considered living beings or mere concepts but are made of solid matter, Sunny concludes they are simply "things", like cursed items controlled by malevolent wills.[6]

Sunny's idea to defeat the Deathless Spirit emerged from this realization. If the Deathless were no different from items, then instead of creating a Memory to fight it, he considered turning the Deathless itself into a Memory. A Memory, as described, was simply an item enchanted with the rudimentary spellweave, allowing it to be disassembled into soul essence and stored in its master's soul and later reconstituted as matter. Since the Deathless had neither shadow nor soul, Sunny theorized he could create a rudimentary spellweave, anchor it in a sufficiently pure soul shard, and attach it to the black bones of the Deathless. This would allow him to dismiss the Deathless as he would a Memory and store it in his soul in a disassembled state.[6]

Trivia

  • Azarax recognized the entity as the Wandering Archon, but was unable to recall its powers or governing concept.[1]
  • In Chapter 2896, Sunny managed to dismiss the Archon as his Memory.
  • In Chapter 2956, the Wandering Archon was summoned by Sunny to help even the odds against the Vile Thieving Bird.
