The Terror of LO49 was most likely a Corrupted Terror that is responsible for destroying the battleship Ariadne and massacring the garrison of the LO49 installation.[4]
Appearance
...Hidden in the depths of the lightless abyss, an eerily beautiful creature floated in the vast and silent darkness.
... From a distance, the Terror looked akin to a strange, ghostly flower... a lily, perhaps, or a white lotus. Its pallid petals flowed and danced slowly in the darkness, some stretching for hundreds of meters into the empty abyss, some swirling around the small nebulous shape hidden in their center. The sight of it was both breathtakingly beautiful and deeply terrifying. The wide ribbons of white looked both like the petals of a flower... and like the long tentacles of an ethereal creature, too alien to be described with words. — Description, Chapter 1015 The Fall of Falcon Scott (33) |
Upon closer look, the ghostly white blossom was actually long stretches of white, flowing cloth. The ghostly white blossom was surrounded by hundreds of other shapes, including drowned bodies, humans, Nightmare Creatures, and things that couldn't be named. They floated silently around the Terror, unmoving, their empty eyes staring blindly into the darkness. Some had cloth petals wrapped around them like a burial shroud. The otherworldly beauty added to the eerie scene, with a powerful presence emanating from the billowing white cloth, evoking horror and malice.[5]
In the heart of the pallid blossom, there was a shape wrapped in white silk. It was a vague contour of a human body, desiccated and short in stature. It was feminine and small, almost delicate. Pressed tightly against the wrappings, a hint of a face could be discerned, two hollow pits where eyes should have been, and a larger one of a mouth that seemed to be open in a silent, eternal scream. The flower was actually a great burial shroud of white silk with its sleeves and draping drifting in the cold dark water.[2]
Ability
It can use mind manipulation to lure people into its maw while rending others incapable of stopping it by blinding of what is happening.[3][6] As long as one is in the presence of one of the mesmerized victims, others will instantly forget what they had seen.[7]
The creature hides underwater and kills people by luring them into the ocean through immensely powerful mind manipulation. It also places a mind hex on everyone else to make them ignore the victims.[4]
It emerged from the Gate alone, lacking a defense from weaker Nightmare Creatures. Its ability to wipe out large groups is limited, as it waited weeks to kill everyone at LO49. This vulnerability may be its weakness.[4] Terror of L049 relied on mind attacks and manipulation suggesting a lack of physical might.[8]
Although the Terror did not seem to have a lot of physical power, its graceful petals possessed a harrowing strength but not enough to threaten a Transcendent in their bestial form.[9]
If one was enveloped in a vast expanse of billowing silk, immobilized by it. One will have their memory, foresight, awareness, intent, and resolve gone, and their thoughts, desires, and hopes seem senseless. With each passing moment, one's sense of self was dissolving more, and soon, it would be completely gone. Then, something new, old, and darker was going to take its place. Fighting the Terror in its mindscape was a futile endeavor.[10]
Hollow Horde
The drowned residents of LO49 became thralls of the Terror, one Master, a hundred or so Awakened, close to a thousand mundane soldiers, several hundreds of civilians, and thousands upon thousands of Nightmare Creatures, all controlled and transformed by the Terror. The creature's actions made the thralls much more dangerous than their former selves.[11] All of them had empty gaze and glassy eyes.[12][11]
Defenders ignored Terror's thralls, but some fired rifles, indicating its hex was not absolute due to residents' presence.[11]

History
According to Sunny's investigation, this creature came from the second gate that opened underwater, at the same time as the scavenger gate. That is why the strength of the Call is too drastic to be produced by a single gate.[3] It also intercepted Ariadne, as only the broken piece of its battleship hull was seen.[14][15]
Trivia
- Sin of Solace, possessing a True Name, and having unreasonably high resistance to mental attacks allowed Sunny to temporarily fight the mindscape invasion of the Terror enough to summon and use both Shadow Lantern and Weaver's Mask.[10]
