Friends
Aiko
During their time paying tribute to Gunlaug, Kai had known Aiko well, and she later worked as his manager after their return to the waking world[1][2]. However, when Kai decided to end his idol career and enlist in the military, Aiko lost her job, leaving her seemingly resentful and holding a grudge against him. Despite this tension, Aiko played a significant role in shaping Kai's path. His guilt over being unable to help her when she was harassed by one of Gunlaug's Pathfinders—an event that Nephis eventually resolved[3][1]-drove him to pursue strength relentlessly. This incident, combined with the shame he felt, motivated him to join Sunny and the other in the Second Nightmare and later the Southern Campaign, eventually becoming a Saint in service of the government. Kai's determination to never again feel powerless to protect Aiko, or others like her, defined his choices and commitment to his dangerous path.[4]
Cassie
Kai and Cassie still keep in contact with each other in the real world. He and Effie contacted her when Sunny went missing.[5]
Effie
Kai and Effie still keep in contact with each other in the real world.[5]
Nephis
He believed that Nephis can survive and make it out alive from Dream Realm when he knew that she didn't make it back with them.[6]
Sunny
“ Well... what a surprise! I was almost certain that you will turn out to be a terrible monster. But you aren't. You really are a human, and such a cutie too! ” ― To Sunny,
Chapter 117 Cruel Injustice
The first time Kai met Sunny, he was stuck in a well after he was captured by Gunlaug's thugs who were greedy for his memories. At that time both of them thought and feared the other was a terrifying Nightmare creature.[7] Initially, Kai sees Sunny as a bit of an asshole.[8] Interacting with Sunny, he now fully understood things about his friend. One was when he said that he was crazy. He proved it by his suicidal jump off the cliff. Two, how he managed to survive all those months in the ruins. It's due to his swordsmanship, he had never seen anything like it. He thinks that very few people in the Dark City would survive a clash against him.[9] Also, no matter how bizarre the things his friend says, they're always true. He has never met anyone as stupidly honest as him. So, he enjoyed spending time with Sunny so much.[10] Thinking of his prickly, but adorable friend, Kai couldn't help but smile a little. He thinks Sunny is unpredictable.[11]
More Details
Back in the real world, they met again during the memorial in the Academy. Kai hugged Sunny and was thankful that he didn't die.[12] He was also surprised that he didn't receive a True Name and thought that he deserved it more than anyone to which Sunny agreed.[6]
Back when Sunny had been falling into the Sky Below, about two weeks after he stopped answering their messages, both he and Effie got worried. Kai used his connections to learn Sunny's new address. He even flew halfway to the Chained Isles to find him.[5]
After the four-year time skip of Sunny being forgotten by everyone, they met again as Lord of Shadows and joined their quest to defeat the sovereigns.[13]
In Chapter 3015, Kai explained that one of the reasons he liked Sunny when they first met in the Dark City was because Sunny had no idea who he was and did not care to find out. During Kai's time as an idol, he was constantly surrounded by public opinions and expectations, becoming obsessed with how he was perceived. Although he was loved by many fans, he felt increasingly lonely because people loved a carefully crafted image of him rather than his real self. This created a sense of alienation and an invisible wall between him and others. In contrast, when Sunny found him in the well, Kai was simply a Sleeper named Kai. Because Sunny treated him as an ordinary person rather than a celebrity, Kai felt less lonely in Sunny's company than he did when surrounded by crowds of adoring fans.

Government
The government was in turmoil, drifting on historical currents. Four years ago, the government decided to invest heavily in the Dream Realm, causing Effie to be permanently stationed in Bastion and Kai in Ravenheart. Effie and Kai mostly dealt with military and diplomatic issues, simply executing the orders.[15]

Sovereigns
Kai believes that defeating the Sovereigns is the right thing to do, no more or less.[16]
