Overview

Jade Queen is said to be a beautiful monster that Ariel had made queen and gifted with sinister knowledge of hideous truth.[1]

Jade Palace

Main article: Jade Palace

The Jade Palace is originally built for the Jade Queen by Ariel. It is located in Ravenheart and plays a vital role in maintaining the region's livability by acting as a source of mystical environmental transformation (Refer to Jade Palace's Component).[2]

Structurally, the Jade Palace is described as a magnificent obsidian edifice, large and imposing enough to cast a deep shadow. It once housed the Jade Court and was a place of great influence in ancient times, drawing pilgrims from many realms who sought the wisdom and presence of the Jade Queen.[2]

Background

[...Ariel, the Demon of Dread, who turned a beautiful monster into a queen and gave her a sinister gift of forbidden knowledge.][1][note 1]

[Ariel built a beautiful palace of jade for the queen, and there, she held her court. A great bridge of stone led to the Jade Palace, covered in snow and ash. Soon, the news of the queen's beauty and wisdom spread across the realms, and many guests came to witness her grace. Not all of them survived the snow, and even fewer survived the ash. Still, more and more came.][3][note 2]

[They entered the beautiful halls of the Jade Court harboring venomous desires in their black hearts, and hiding rapacious snarls behind their admiring smiles. The mistress of the palace herself presented them with a cup of the sweetest nectar. No matter how much of the sweet nectar they drank, the cup remained full. The more of it they consumed, the more of it they desired. Soon, there was nothing but bestial need left, and nothing but bitterness remained.][4][note 3]

Summary

  1. ↑ This came from the description of [Sin of Solace] that told of a beautiful monster that Ariel had made queen and gifted with sinister knowledge of hideous truth.[3]
  2. ↑ This came from the description of [Falling Ash] that told about how Ariel had built the Jade Palace for the Jade Queen.[3]
  3. ↑ This came from the description of [Bitter Cusp] that told about a story about a group of guests that came to the Jade Court with ill intentions.[3]

The Jade Queen was the original owner of the Jade Palace, which was built specifically for her by Ariel, also known as the Demon of Dread and the Demon of Truth. She presided over the Jade Court and was renowned across many realms for her beauty and wisdom. Her reputation was so compelling that pilgrims braved harsh elements — snow and ash — just to seek an audience with her. However, not all who came survived the journey or her hospitality; the Jade Queen was known to transform those who offended her into Nightmare Creatures or other strange beings.[2]

Ariel is said to have given her a sinister gift of forbidden knowledge, implying that she held some dreadful or profound truths. This knowledge may have played a part in her downfall. The Jade Palace, marked by Nether on the wall of the Ebony Tower, suggests Ariel cared deeply for her.[2]

The Remnant of the Jade Queen, a Corrupted Tyrant in the form of a large, strangely beautiful beetle, was encountered and ultimately slain by Sunny, who received a Memory called Sin of Solace for doing so. This implies that the Jade Queen's end was monstrous, possibly tragic, and far removed from her once-glorious existence.[2]

Although her exact nature remains unclear — she might have been a monster with a Transformation Ability to appear human — the throne of the Jade Palace is built for a human, suggesting at least a partial or symbolic human identity. Her ultimate fate is unknown; Sunny speculates she may have been destroyed by the truth she carried, undone by envy, or perished in the Doom War alongside Ariel.[2]

Trivia

  • The Jade Court was the only force against which the glorious Empire had ever lost a war. During the war against the Jade Court, two of the six Spirits who watched over the Empire perished. As a result, only four Spirits remained to serve the Dragon, who sat on his towering throne at the heart of the Empire. These were the Spirit of Victory, the Spirit of Beauty, the Spirit of Art, and the Spirit of Joy. The seventh Spirit was said to have not been born yet.[5]
