Flesh of Kanakht is a parasite that controls the immortal abominations in the Eternal City.[2]

Description

The Flesh of Kanakht is a Nightmare Creature that came to the Eternal City. It crawled into the bodies of the true immortals and rooted itself within their immortal bodies. The abominations encountered and fought in Eternal City — the hideous army of immortals (Corrupted Immortals) — are not actually the immortals themselves, but rather this Nightmare Creature wearing the bodies of the immortals. The immortals' bodies and souls remain intact, but their minds have long crumbled, making them like empty dolls before being taken over. The Flesh of Kanakht therefore acts as a parasite, using those mindless immortal bodies as vessels.[1]

Those immortals being merely shells for it. When a host becomes useless, it will find another, and the depths — the water surrounding the Eternal City that hides numerous little critters and countless abominations populating the depths — offer it endless new hosts to infect. If immortals are thrown into the water, most would become a source of sustenance for these creatures, causing them to mutate, sprout tendrils, and climb ashore, turning them into a future threat. The Flesh of Kanakht is implied to be an immortal Great Terror, with its human vessels wielding power similar to that of Great Nightmare Creatures.[2]

Trivia

  • According to Eurys, the Shadow God cursed individuals like him, Azarax, Kanakht, and a few others. They were banished from death, unable to die.[4]
  • According to Cassie's observations, the Dutchman's battle with the Flesh of Kanakht had significant consequences — it may have provided the fuel or catalyst that allowed the Flesh of Kanakht to begin evolving from a Great Terror into a Great Titan.[5]
  • Sunny noted that killing the vessel of Flesh of Kanakht would not destroy it, because it had never died in the Eternal City, and its shadow was not in the void chamber as a result. The undying nature of its host made it a suitable host for the malevolent parasite of the Great Titan, since the Titan did not care whether the flesh was alive or dead, only that it was undying. The Flesh was previously contained by a barrier built by Daeron to prevent a Great Terror, not a Great Titan, from being unleashed, though the barrier was temporary. With the sorcery of the Eternal City failing, the Flesh's body would not be healed instantly nor raised from the dead, meaning Sunny and his companions would have a chance to fight it.[6]
