The First Sage is one of the most mysterious and revered figures in The Primal Hunter. He served as the master of The Malefic Viper during the latter’s time as a C-grade. The First Sage was originally a human who lived during the integration of the 1st universe. He possessed the bloodline known as The Immortal Mind, a bloodline later inherited by The Malefic Viper through a system event upon reaching godhood.
Known by very few, he seemingly has an unparalleled knowledge of Records and the System and he serves as a philosopher and teacher rather than a warrior or conqueror. The Sage presents himself as a seeker of truth who has dedicated his existence to studying the intricacies of the System.
His influence on Jake Thayne and The Malefic Viper is profound, shaping not only their understanding of Records but also their perspective on the nature and power of the System. In the eyes of The Malefic Viper, he was the most talented in all ways, seeming to excel in everything and anything. The Viper described the First Sage as "a universal genius. A jack of all trades, master of all."[1]
As of the integration of the 93rd Universe, virtually all knowledge about the First Sage has become Forbidden knowledge with only Jake and the Malefic Viper able to retain memories of the man.
Appearance
Personality
The First Sage is portrayed as measured, calm, and analytical, embodying patience befitting his title. He is philosophical, often answering questions with other questions to encourage learning. Despite his wisdom, he shows humility; he admits he did not create the System. His goal is to guide others toward understanding and mastery of Records. He values balance, knowledge, and the pursuit of truth above all.
Story Summary
Pre-system, the First Sage worked as a librarian. The head librarian, he considered the library his second home and his pride and joy.[2] He has a deep love of books and their ability to perfectly preserve knowledge. The Sage had a home he purchased with the inheritance from his father. The Sage lived there for over 50 years.
Upon the initiation, all the greatest thinkers were called to heart of the empire to try and understand how the world had changed. The emperor embraced the System and encouraged exploration, in spite of objections from religious groups.[3] As part of the exploration, the empire sought to contain the desolation that was creeping across the continent from an area eventually known as the Desolates. Many tried, but to no avail. Ultimately, the First Sage was able to create a magic formation that stopped the spread, for which he was granted his title.
Skills
The First Sage had at least four Transcendent skills according to The Malefic Viper.
- One was made with the express purpose of shortening his lifespan.[1]
- Library of a Sage: Seemingly used to give enlightenment to another.[4]
- Once functions as the opposite of desolation to cancel out the concept.[3]
Additionally, in one of Jake's visions, he is shown using five other Transcendent skills to kill a Void Dweller while only in C-grade:
- Slow.
- Delay.
- Pause.
- Reversal.
- Return.[5]
