City Lord is a leader-type profession that one person per Pylon of Civilization can get: either the owner of the pylon, or someone who the owner designates, although the profession requires for the City Lord to have a nobility title. The profession allows for the creation of quests for citizens of the city to take on, auras that benefit everyone in the city, various management and leadership skills and the ability to activate and enhance defenses inherent to the pylon.
The City Lord profession has a few different versions, seemingly dependent on how soon after integration the pylon it is associated with was captured. Miranda Wells, who got the profession from the first Pylon captured on Earth, got the following profession:
Principal City Lord of Earth – The very first human to found a city on Earth. Now on a path to create a haven for the survivors in the new world. A home to defend. City Lord is a profession focused on managing and guiding a city to glory. Grants skills related to management, economics, leadership, and control, as well as paths to protect your new dominion. However, be warned that should the city fall, you will not escape unscathed. Stat bonuses per level: +18 free points.
However, the next few that captured a pylon got a worse version of the profession. Jacob, who was the second to capture a pylon on Earth and claim the profession from it, got one called Pioneering City Lord of Earth, which granted only 16 free points per level, and it was implied that the others who were among the first 10 to claim a pylon got the same profession offered. Given that the first person to claim a pylon got their nobility title upgraded to Earl, the next nine got theirs to Viscount, and the ninety after that to round out the first 100 total got their titles upgraded to Baron, it stands to reason that special versions of the base City Lord profession were offered to each "tier" of pylon claimed in the new universe.
One notable feature is that City Lords seem to be able to appoint assistants, who themselves receive a "City Lord's Assistant" profession, as Lillian received from Miranda. The profession seems to allow the individual access to some systems of the Pylon, although a nobility title is needed to fully make use of them.
