If anyone ever tries to force you... Well, throw me a thought. I haven't done a nice massacre for a while.
The Bloodline Accords are a treaty introduced in the 7th Era banning the abductions, enslavement, or coercion of those with Bloodlines for purposes of research or procreation[1]. The Accords were introduced and ratified by all 12 Primordials and they continue to enforce it, along with most active gods. Nobody dares violate this treaty as the repercussions are immediate and severe. A floor in Nevermore is dedicated specifically to teaching participants about the enforcement of the Accords.
Background
In the 1st Era, most with bloodlines were slaughtered. Those who survived lived as test subjects until their death, some being used as "bloodline detectors" to find others for capture. According to Villy, by the end of the 1st Era, not a single S-grade even had a bloodline.[1] By the 2nd Era, it became more accepted that bloodlines could not be stolen, but those determined to forcibly seize bloodlines began to treat those with bloodlines like breeding cattle, forcing them into what amounted to sexual slavery in hopes of sireing powerful heirs.
Over time, more gods with Bloodlines began to reach godhood and blindly hunting down suspected bloodline holders became frowned upon, an activity that had to be done covertly. But even with the practice being publicly discouraged, some clandestine parties still remained determined to control bloodlines. One such party eventually "went after someone they shouldn't have, and all hell was unleashed upon them"[1] leading to the Bloodline Accords.
Notable Violations
- In the 82nd era, a pantheon attempted to forcibly assimilate a small clan with a powerful bloodline. The pantheon leader forced the women of the clan to be his mistresses and the men of the clan to copulate with his daughters in order to sire coveted bloodline heirs.[1] The violation was detected within a week. Seven primordials and more than ten thousand gods responded. The entire Pantheon was killed, as well as every member of the patron god's faction. The Viper estimated the loss of life to be in the trillions.
- When Jake and his companions were ambushed in the void and it appeared that an unknown group was trying to kidnap him for access to his bloodline abilities, 5 Primordials, 2 pinnacle gods, and a void god showed up within moments to investigate even the suspicion of a violation.[2]
Education about the Accords
The C-grade version of Nevermore contains five floors dedicated to introducing the multiversally agreed-upon rules and best practices. Including these floors prevents factions from being able to claim they were unaware of certain rules. Inclusion at C-grade was chosen because this is the point at which most denizens of the multiverse will first began to explore beyond their own planet and interact with other factions and cultures.[3]
Floor forty-two is dedicated to the rules of the Bloodline Accords and the consequences of violating them. In the scenario Jake's team experienced, a child with a bloodline is identified by a member of a high noble family. She wants to adopt him, but his family refuses as the child is an only child and the heir of his family. The high noble decides to simply kidnap the child. Jake and his team are tasked with safely escorting the child to the royal family for help. Their attempt is interrupted by a coup led by the covetous noble woman's family. The conflict is finally settled when a god descends and reminds them that kidnapping someone for their bloodline is against the Accords and, as their patron god, he would personally be held responsible. He explodes the instigator into literal mist and warns the emperor that if he ever hears of another attempt to violate the Accords, he will return and destroy the entire empire.
Important Clarification
The accords are only enforced if the bloodline holder is kidnapped specifically for their bloodline with the intent to do research or forcibly spread the Bloodline. Kidnapping a bloodline holder for any other reason (ex: for ransom from their pantheon) would not trigger a response.
Factions are allowed to recruit bloodline holders specifically in hopes that they will take a partner within the faction and sire kids. This recruitment can include bribes, payments, or other enticements.
Trivia
- After witnessing Jasper post-evolution, The Seeker jokes that he's tempted to imprison Jake just so he can learn what all Jake's bloodline can do, but he won't because that would break the Bloodline Accords, make the Malefic Viper very angry, and cause a number of powerful factions to start hounding him, so it's not worth it.[4]
