Volume 10

The Eastern Quadrant had been devastated by war and overrun by the Skinwalker, a Great Terror that indiscriminately consumed both humans and Nightmare Creatures in its effort to grow and spread. In time, all the Nightmare Creatures of the wilderness were wiped out and absorbed by it, until Mordret defeated the Skinwalker through a soul duel, eradicating the root of its existence. Their bodies were inherited by him and taken into his Mirror Realm, leaving the Eastern Quadrant the only place in either world free of abominations and cleansed of Corruption, at least temporarily, since Nightmare Gates remained and would eventually bring new threats. At present, the region hosted the largest concentration of humanity's forces, with mundane soldiers, Awakened, Saints, and even the Night Garden gathered there, but the sudden end of the war left them without purpose, creating the need for major strategic realignments and redeployment to other flashpoints on Earth and in the Dream Realm.[1]

The ongoing evacuation of the civilian population to other Quadrants and the Dream Realm was also called into question, since the primary reason for it had abruptly vanished.[1]
