The Tainted Saints were Children of Nether who had become Nightmare Creatures through Corruption.[1] They were a group of powerful Children of Nether serving under a Great Devil.[2]

Abilities

Tainted Saints were powerful, supremely skilled, and fierce. They wielded their powers with profound mastery, and their Will washed over the devastated square like a tide. Their fighting style was a grounded, methodical, and indomitable battle style that revealed the depths of their malevolent resolve and felt suffocating in its relentless inevitability.[2]

Tainted Saints

The Great Devil was the strongest among the seven Children of Nether, the other six were Great Demons (Saint of Tainted Jade).[3] Each of them wielded power over a single source element.[4]

Name Description
Time Saint[4] Manipulated time, allowing it to reach their enemies almost instantly as though time flowed differently for it.[4]
Space Saint[4][5] Manipulated space, instantly appearing behind enemies.[4]
Fire Saint[5] The most fearsome and devastating among them, with flames capable of melting steel and turning stone into rivers of lava. However, he was also the unluckiest, as Saint was all but impervious to his flames, Sunny's Jade Titan form shared the same resilience, and Nephis had inherited the Fire of Sun God, making burning her an exercise in futility. Saint ultimately threw him off balance and repeatedly crushed his helmet until his head was entirely crushed.

[2]

Ice Saint[2] Had a slimmer figure, unmistakably female. Her power was both potent and insidious, capable of rendering most terrible foes weak and vulnerable through the lethal cold she emanated. However, her power was easily vanquished by Neph's immolating heat, making it not only ineffective against the enemy, it was directly countered by one of them. Nephis softened her armor with impossible heat, allowing Saint to pierce her fallen kin's chest, ending her profane existence with one decisive strike.[2]
Stone Saint[2] Commanded stone, possessing a power that was formidable and profoundly versatile. Its main application was denying the enemy sure footing, described as a death sentence on most battlefields, where footwork and the ability to push against the earth to generate force reigned. Sunny countered the trap of liquid stone using shadows before driving his sword into the Saint's unprotected armpit, making the wound fatal with Death Will.[2]
Water Saint[2] Swift and elusive, both fleeting and devastating. Her tidal form could not contend against Neph's flame and the power granted to Saint by Sunny's augmentation. In the end, she was diminished by the heat, caged by the shadows, and killed by Sunny's slaying blade.[2]
Absence[6] (Commander) The strongest among the seven Tainted Saints. He wielded an immense greatsword.[3] He embodied nothingness, using a far stronger version of the field of annulment than Saint's.[4]

The Great Devil who commanded the other Tainted Saints remained motionless throughout the battle, observing while the others fought. He was described as Saint's equal. After all six Children of Nether had been slain by Sunny or Saint, Sunny held back after receiving a dark look from Saint, allowing her to walk toward the last defender of the crumbling settlement with confident steps, apparently wishing to bring down this Great Devil, her equal, alone.[2]

The Great Devil called Absence was described as a towering colossus and the strongest among them. Unlike the other Tainted Saints, the Great Devil wielded power over nothingness. His movements were described as strained and unsure, as if he were bearing an impossible weight. After silently facing Saint for several moments, the Tainted Saint slowly raised his hand and shattered his own immense sword. He then arduously lowered himself to one knee, looked up at Saint, and after she gave a slight nod, allowed her sword to pierce the narrow crack of his visor. His armor collapsed afterward, as if there had never been anything inside it at all.[1]

Sunny later suspected that the Great Devil had been resisting Corruption. He noted that the Devil's actions seemed meaningful if he had been fighting a silent battle within himself, resisting the urge to attack while recognizing Saint as the last Child of Nether who walked the earth free of Corruption, even if it was as a Shadow. Saint was described as a Stone Saint who had reached Supremacy while walking the Path of Ascension, and therefore someone who had deserved his recognition. Sunny believed the Great Devil chose to resist in the last moments of his life, rebelling against his very nature. He reflected that he had never met a Nightmare Creature who could deny the demented frenzy of Corruption, with only the Puppeteer coming close, though that resistance had merely been deception. He further explained that the Stone Saints were stalwart beings, whose unshakeable resolve made them immune to mental attacks, suggesting that if anyone could push back the power of Corruption for a few fleeting moments, it was them.[1]

Trivia

  • In Chapter 3071, their strength was evenly matched with Sunny, Nephis, and Saint because the Great Devil who commanded the other Tainted Saints had not joined the battle yet, instead remaining motionless while observing.
  • After the battle, Saint silently placed the Great Devil's helmet at the base of the towering stele. Later, seven towering figures rose from the shadows, forming a wedge behind her. These figures were revealed to be the shades of the Tainted Saints, including the shadow of the stalwart Great Devil.[1]
