Shadow coin is larger and heavier than the minted coins of citadels, entirely black, and etched with the symbol of a coiled serpent.[1]
Unlike essence coins, Shadow Coins were fragment coins. Consuming them did not grant Awakened essence but instead provided a soul fragment or even multiple fragments if the coin was of a higher denomination.[1]
Shadow Coins were extremely valuable due to their rarity and mysterious origin. While nobody knew exactly where they came from or who minted them, everyone desired to own one. Their elusiveness and mystique elevated them to the status of true treasures. Although soul fragments could be obtained through other means—such as purchasing soul shards—Shadow Coins remained highly sought-after.[1]
Trivia
- For Aiko, acquiring these cost nothing; she simply had to feed the Mimic a steady supply of distressing Nightmare Creatures.[1]
- These coins were actually produced by the Dark Castle, also known as the Marvelous Mimic.[1]
