Forgemasters is a title for Enchanters of Valor who are capable of forging Memories because of their Aspects.[1][2]

Titles

The title "Forgemaster" is used as a simplified term for enchanters, regardless of their specific titles (e.g., Infuser, Forger, or Spellsmith). The titles are not mutually exclusive; an enchanter can hold multiple titles (e.g., Infuser and Forger).[2]

Title Equivalent Valor Warrior Rank Role/Capabilities Other Information
Infuser Squire

Responsible for permanently enhancing or augmenting inanimate objects. Examples include making weapons sharper, armor more durable, or infusing objects with special qualities (e.g., an exploding arrowhead). Infusers' work serves as a foundation for further augmentation by Scribes because infused items often endure the runes better.[2]

  • They make up the bulk of the enchanters of Valor.[2]
Forger Knight

Specialized in copying or replicating items or their traits. Some can duplicate weapons or copy a quality of one weapon to another.[2] A Forger can turn augmented item into a Memory, some can duplicate Memories, some can transfer particular enchantments, and so on. Sometimes, they can create very crude automations.[3]

  • They are fewer than Infusers and many come from minor branches of Valor family.[2]
  • They are not as powerful and precious as Spellsmiths but they are considered the most important cog in the process.[2]
  • The more powerful forged Memories are the result of careful collection of suitable enchantments and transferring them into a single vessel.[3]
Spellsmith Paladin

Spellsmiths can directly imbue items with mystical traits and enchantments without copying from somewhere else.[3] They are distinct from Forgers or Infusers. Unlike Forgers, who replicate, or Infusers, who place external enchantments, Spellsmiths "improve". Their role is not about copying or placing external enchantments but about catalyzing and guiding improvement in an object. A Spellsmith encourages an object, such as a sword, to enhance its inherent qualities. For example, making it sharper, stronger, and more lethal. The improvement is driven by the object itself; the Spellsmith merely acts as a catalyst for this transformation.[4]

  • The most venerated title among enchanters, possessing abilities far beyond Infusers and Forgers.[2]
  • They also possessed a wealth of knowledge, best equipment and receive the most resources.[3]
  • They can create true artificial Echoes.[3]
  • Primarily held by members of Valor family and most are direct descendants — children and grandchildren of Warden, with few exceptions.[3]
  • The King of Valor, the senior and most distinguished Spellsmith, is considered unparalleled in this craft.[3]
  • Some Spellsmiths have the ability to name and describe their creations.[3]
Scribe -

A separate specialization focusing on mastering Runes using it to augment items.[2]

  • Not part of the primary hierarchy but highly significant in the overall process.[2]

Foundation

The foundation the forgmasters of Valor used was based on power and happenstance. They ultimately relied on the unique nature of their Aspects instead of understanding. Therefore, they are doomed to be limited by the boundaries of their Aspects.[3]

Importance in Valor

While Warriors of Valor (e.g., Squires, Knights, and Paladins) are renowned for their martial prowess, enchanters are rarer and often considered more critical due to their contributions to technology and craft. Their forge-related titles take precedence over battlefield titles, although they are seldom used.[2]

Trivia

  • Memories produced by forgemasters of Valor are often through collaboration — a mundane weapon is forged, augmented by an Infuser, enchanted by a Scribe, and turned into a Memory by a Forger.[3]
  • The Spell names the forged Memories but some Spellsmiths have the ability to name and describe their creations.[3]
  • Custom Memories were a luxury reserved for the private troops of the Valor clan due to work of the enchanters being expensive — each of the spent soul shards could have been used to strengthen the core of an Awakened soldier.[5]
