History
Fire Keepers have long saturated their cores and have more than enough experience. Shim's cohort will enter a seed first, followed by two others. A month later, two more cohorts will challenge the Second Nightmare.[1]
In Chapter 1607, Shim, Kaor, Shakti, Sid, Gorn, Gantry, and Erlas were Fire Keepers who followed Nephis into the Death Zone, while the rest were searching for young Sleepers in less dangerous regions. The seven Masters, once Cassie's cohort, were superior to the rest, making them a distinct group.[2] All of them have unique bestial Echoes, despite not being powerful enough for battle, were fast and could be ridden. They spent time hunting suitable Dormant Nightmare Creatures to obtain these Echoes, with braver ones hunting Awakened abominations and some lucky ones having Ascended Beasts as steeds.[3]
Despite being shunned by the Valor elders, the Fire Keepers were generous and self-sufficient. They could generate wealth through their exploits, often dealing with calamities and bringing back valuable materials from Nightmare Creatures. Cassie managed the Fire Keepers' assets, investing in various enterprises throughout the Sword Domain and funding establishments in Bastion and other young cities. This stable income added to Changing Star's reputation and helped maintain their wealth. Additionally, the Fire Keepers established a large charity fund to help those in need.[4]
In Chapter 1842, Fire Keepers were meant to be the vanguard of the human invasion into Godgrave.
The Returned
Note: This is after the Ending the Plague. More information in The Returned.
The Fire Keepers underwent a significant transformation following the forgotten years and the return of the Dreamers of the Dark City. Originally, the Fire Keepers were Changing Star's personal guard, composed of veterans who had survived the events of Godgrave. However, by the time of the passage, the original Fire Keepers were no longer serving in that role. They had split into six separate cohorts to challenge six Nightmare Seeds in pursuit of becoming Saints.[5]
At the same time, the Awakened who had been recruited into the Fire Keepers after the war had lost their memories due to the Dreamspawn Plague and no longer remembered becoming members of Changing Star's personal guard. As a result, many of the Returned stepped into their place.[5]
The former Dreamers of the Dark City who joined the Fire Keepers effectively became a second generation of Fire Keepers, replacing their former comrades while the original members were away. Since they were veterans of the Forgotten Shore and retained their memories and combat experience, they provided a strong foundation for the organization during a time of crisis.[5]
