Teachings

Their teachings had grown cruel and perverse over the centuries. It was endless training like battle training, essence training, and body conditioning. How to endure pain, how to endure fear, how to steel your will. How to be a perfect, merciless, lethal vessel of War. They were also very inventive in their lessons like enduring pain to the brink of death.[6]

All the things they did to the girls were done without any hint of hatred, malevolence, or bad intentions. On the contrary, the older Maidens treated the girls like their little sisters — when they were not torturing and killing them.[6]

Background

The War Maidens are not someone to be trifled with they only needed Noctis' protection because there was a schism within the sect, and one of their disciples left to create her own cult. They have a rule that no one can leave the sect alive, her departure was not amicable. Those who survived it came here to build the Temple of the Chalice and remained there since.[1]

The sect that dwelled in the Temple of the Chalice, was where Solvane came from.[1]

Their last transcended, the venerable foremother, died two hundred years ago. There were no other Transcendents among the maidens since.[7]

History

In Fourth Nightmare, the Red Sect was described as being far more ancient than the current avatar of War God. At the time of its foundation at the dawn of time, the avatar of War had been a human woman. Because of this, the Red Sect did not teach that the War Maidens had promised themselves to War God as brides. Instead, they strived to forge themselves in her image. This was the promise they made, and it was the reason they were forbidden from surrendering alive—not because choosing a peaceful resolution instead of battle would mean being unfaithful to War, their divine patron.[8]
