The original asuras were created by the Ash Nomads, a people who traveled the Sea of Ash while hiding from the White Abyss in its depths. According to Inti of Mictlan, he did not create the asuras himself but merely perfected them. The Ash Nomads eventually perished, with their tribes and clans wiped out, and the surviving remnants finding refuge in Mictlan. Inti inherited part of their knowledge through his mother, who was of the Ash, allowing him to understand the crude art of building the asuras and later improve their design.[1]

The original asuras were golems that granted the Ash Nomads power well beyond what they were supposed to possess, helping them survive in the Sea of Ash. However, golems were inherently limited because they did not possess a soul and could not wield the Will, unlike living beings. This raised the problem of how a soulless construct could assist its user in fighting the Corrupted.[1]

The Ash Nomads solved this limitation through human sacrifice. They killed their own people and trapped the sacrificial spirits in the soulless stone of the asuras, allowing the constructs to function beyond the capabilities of ordinary golems. While effective, this method was fundamentally flawed because it could not be scaled without harming the collective power of Mictlan. As a result, the original design depended on sacrificial spirits as its source of power and remained limited despite its effectiveness.[1]

The original asuras were not as powerful as the corrupted versions encountered thousands of years later. Those ancient specimens had become as powerful as Great abominations only after spending millennia being consumed by Corruption. Nevertheless, the original asuras were still capable of granting their users power far beyond their natural level, potentially allowing Awakened to wield the power of Masters or mundane people to wield the power of Awakened.[1]
