Bastion is depicted as a realm of dual realities, intricately tied to a mysterious dark mirror hidden in a vast underground chamber beneath the castle. This chamber lies at the center of a stone maze known to a very few and accessible to even fewer. Within its shrouded depths, the mirror looms dozens of meters tall, its immense frame composed of stone pillars, veiled entirely by a black cloth that reflects nothing.[1]
Description
Bastion
The mirror was an ominous and ancient artifact hidden in a dark and silent underground chamber. In Chapter 2163, it was covered by a canvas, with its clasps unfastened, revealing a piece of its ancient frame. The mirror had a connection to the Other Side, a place where rare inscriptions were left in the ruins, allowing the early mastery of runic sorcery.[2]
Palace of Imagination
The Great Mirror in the Palace of Imagination was an enormous construct, covered by a vast and heavy sheet of fabric that required immense strength to uncover. Once revealed, its silver surface reflected those who stood before it but also held within it something far more terrifying. A colossal reflection lingered in the mirror, not cast by anyone present, but left behind thousands of years ago by the Demon of Fate, Weaver. This figure loomed at a hundred meters tall, cloaked in a tattered black mantle, wearing a snarling black wooden mask crowned by three jagged horns. Its eyes were filled with darkness, and its dreadful presence was enough to shatter Mordret's vessel into glass shards when he was forced to perceive it in full. The Great Mirror did not merely reflect ordinary forms; its surface rippled when Sunny's reflection overlapped with that of Weaver, merging the two into a single image before he lost consciousness.[3]

The Great Mirror was located deep beneath the illusory version of the castle in an underground hall at the heart of the mountain. It was tied to the Component of Bastion that allowed the true and false versions of the city to swap places—one remaining in reality, the other safely contained within the Great Mirror. It also enabled Others to enter reality from True Bastion if not properly covered.[4]
- Sunny stated that while this Great Mirror existed beneath the illusory Bastion and was connected by secret passages, True Bastion lacked such passages. Instead, True Bastion had the Mirror Maze and the Hall of Imagination at its core.[4]
Sunny theorized that the Hall of Imagination might contain another Great Mirror—the true Great Mirror, in contrast to the illusory one beneath the False Bastion. This hall was said to make imagined things real or create illusions indistinguishable from reality.[4]
True Bastion
- Main article: True Bastion
Upon unveiling the mirror, it reveals the true essence of Bastion — a desolate and surreal landscape. This alternate reality is drenched in moonlight, depicting a devastated world under a fractured moon. A cold, still lake reflects countless pale stars and harbors lurking, dreadful beings. Where a thriving city once stood on its shores, an ancient forest now spreads, alive with harrowing beasts.[1]
False Bastion
- Main article: Bastion § False Bastion
The illusory Bastion, inhabited by humanity, contrasts sharply with the eerie reality. It is a vibrant city bathed in sunlight, sprawled on the shores of a serene lake, surrounded by an immense castle. In the heart of the Sword Domain, the ruined castle and wild forest symbolize the untamed and primal nature of the land’s true form, with Bastion's known version safely hidden within the depths of the mirror.[1]
Trivia
- The Great Mirror must remain covered at all times to prevent incidents involving the Others.[5]
- In Chapter 1981, Morgan used her connection to their Great Citadel, Bastion, to momentarily interchange the reality and illusion, revealing the illusory city in the mirror while restoring the foreboding, moonlit reality to the world.
