Volume 11
The Forgotten Shore is depicted as a vast land without a sun, yet one where the weather remains temperate for reasons Sunny does not understand. Much of its water vanished when the Dark Sea was sealed, leaving only some groundwater that lies too deep for wells, making the area effectively a desert. Because of this, Sunny notes that, in theory, nothing prevents the Nightmare Desert from swallowing it, raising concerns such as possible desertification, though he admits he does not know how these processes truly work in this place. Sunny rules the Forgotten Shore and describes having an inherent advantage there against invaders, taking vindictive joy in ruling a land that failed to kill him, despite the many logistical problems it causes.[1]
At present, water and food are being imported through a Dream Gate, but Sunny emphasizes that this is only a temporary solution. He wishes to make the Forgotten Shore self-sufficient, especially since there will be no source of supplies on the other side of the Gate in the future due to the absence of a waking world. Beneath the wall of the Dark City, an enclosed settlement has been constructed from manifested shadows, designed to resemble the city’s architecture. The settlement is durable enough to restrain Awakened humans and is intended to function as a prison camp or quarantine facility, housing thousands of people. It includes considerations such as sewage, trash disposal, food preparation and distribution, running water, and recreational activities, making it relatively habitable despite its grim nature.[1]
