Drowned are a special tribe of Nightmare Creatures in Ariel's Tomb. No one knows where they come from, but many believe that they are once humans.[1]
Characteristics
They hunt in groups and herd true horrors of the depths (Depth Dweller) to use as war beasts. They possess at least a rudimentary level of sentience and follow strange rituals.[1]
They are very territorial and constantly fighting with other Nightmare Creatures. They leave signs to avoid the waters where truly powerful foes dwell.[1]
Kinds
Drowned Outcasts
The Outcasts are dregs of their kind.[1] These Corrupted Beasts resembled a weird mix between humans and sea creatures. They had humanoid torsos with pale skin, while their legs were replaced by long, powerful black tentacles. Their bodies were emaciated, with ghastly growths covering them like barnacles.[2]
Drowned Warriors
The true Drowned were humanoid creatures with powerful black tentacles instead of a pair of legs and fearsome appearances. They had higher-quality weapons and durable armor made from shell and bone. Their black eyes were filled with bloodlust and malice. Most were corrupted Demons, with the few most powerful being Devils.[3] They are sentient abominations and appeared intelligent enough to fight as a single force.[3]
