Xlotic is the northern part of the continent Miasina.[1] In terms of sentient species, it is inhabited by humans and sulrothum. It was the birthplace of the Ikosian Empire 1500 years before the Cataclysm,[2] and would remain part of the Empire for all of that time.
In the present day, while a smattering of common Ikosian is still spoken (though of a dialect unfamiliar to Zorian), the inhabitants tend to speak in their own historical languages.[3]
Various successor states have taken the place of the Ikosian Empire, including Kontemar, a larger state on the coast and the origin of Neoluma-Manu Iljatir. House Iljatir's signature trait is the blue, tattoo-like markings on their cheeks and foreheads, though it is unknown whether this is related to their magic.[4]
In regards to its infrastructure, Xlotic is well-connected to the rest of the world thanks to the teleport network,[5] as well as having plenty of prestigious mage academies of its own.[4]
Much or northern Miasina is filled with the Xlotic desert. Usually depicted as an endless sea of sand, in actuality the desert is filled with fields of rock, barren hills, mountain ranges, dried lakes and riverbeds, and Ikosian ruins, not to mention rumors of fossilized forests that come to life when rained on, or massive geysers erupting in boiling water from the Dungeon.[6] Due to the presence of the desert, Xlotic nations tended to see more potential in airships compared to Atlazian ones.[7]
Within the Xlotic desert there are no major human settlements, though the sulrothum's Ziggurat of the Sun could be found deep in the desert interior, containing the imperial ring.[8] The Ziggurat itself was part of a former Ikosian temple complex, with many of the ruins having been taken over by the sulrothum. A seasonal river passed through the area, and a large underground lake was the foremost feature of the local underworld.[6]
Other ruins hidden within the Xlotic desert include the Ishmali Reservoirs, a series of hidden worlds left by a forgotten civilization which stored water within pocket dimension caverns. Tunneler toads were able to detect and enter these pocket dimensions.[9]
