Shutur-Tarana Ihilkush was the king of Ikos and founder and first emperor of the Ikosian Empire. 1500 years before the Cataclysm he ascended to the throne of Ikos, declared himself rightful ruler of the Salaw—the fertile river region Ikos was located nearby—and conquered the surrounding city-states. In battle outside of Quatari, he defeated many of his enemies, before embarking on a campaign against the 13 greatest enemies, razing their cities and making them swear fealty to him. From then on he named himself emperor of the Ikosian Empire.[1]

One of the many stories surrounding Shutur-Tarana is that of the Sovereign Gate. It is said that he either made or found a doorway to another world and spent 11 lifetimes there "learning secrets and honing his skills". Once returning to his own world he found this doorway barred to him, and sealed it within his royal vault to wait for a worthy successor.[2] During his lifetime, Shutur-Tarana also created the five treasures of the Ikosian Emperor, presumably to help either himself or his successor while within the Sovereign Gate.[3]

After his death, Shutur-Tarana's dynasty would remain at the helm of the Ikosian Empire for the next 400 years.[1]
