Iron beaks are corvids[1][2] (crow-like birds) that are used in the invasion of Cyoria[3] and to guard Sudomir's Iasku Mansion[2]. They have "knife-like"[4] iron[5] feathers (described as "pitch black feathers had small red decorations and an almost metallic sheen to them"[2]), which they can throw at enemies with high accuracy[2], lack magical senses[2] (but can see in the dark[1]), and are moderately intelligent[6]. Sudomir controlled them by abducting their young, holding them hostage, and using their leadership to convince the others to aid him.[6]
Trivia
- In one place in the text, they are called razor beaks[7].
- Stymphalian birds from Greek mythology also could use their feathers as projectile weapons, and had bronze beaks. Stymphalian birds were one of the sources for iron beaks; the name "iron beak" comes from wikipedia:Total Annihilation: Kingdoms computer game[8].
